An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference over the final hurdle, when the winner, Lahire (FR), ridden by Charlie Maggs interfered with Double Oban (GB), placed second, ridden by Lewis Stones.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Lahire (FR)’s placing as when jumping the last Double Oban (GB) received a significant bump and was taken off its intended line by Lahire (FR) losing both ground and momentum, to then run on strongly to be beaten a diminishing nose margin at the line.
Having taken this into account the Stewards were satisfied that the interference suffered by Double Oban (GB) was more than the minimum margin of a nose between the runners at the line and revised the placings as followed: First; Double Oban (GB), Second; Lahire (FR), Third; Gms Prince (GB), Fourth; Quian (GER).
The interference was found to be accidental as Lahire (FR) jumped quickly left before being corrected by Maggs.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Lustleigh (GB), which was pulled up, had bled from the nose.
