He won nicely. He didn't like the sticky ground in the Ballysax and he was off for a good while after that. He handled that well today and he is bred to stay well but he is a bit keen and perhaps that might restrict his stamina. He is a good horse and he shows plenty of speed and he has a nice turn of foot. John M Oxx, trainer

The Stewards interviewed J.P.O.'Brien concerning his riding of Hail The Hero, in the latter stages of this race, where he appeared to ease his mount. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that the horse's stride shortened and he lost his action inside the final furlong, before changing his legs in the closing stages. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered and took no further action.
