Long-absent Figaruso landed a major punt in the opening claimer over 1m 4f at Tramore.

He has been off since running fifth in a maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe in August 2022.

Available at 50/1 this morning, he attracted money during the day. He opened at 20/1 and was backed down to 15/2 on his first start for Matthew Quinn.

Mikey Sheehy made all on the six-year-old gelding who was understandably a little keen in the early stages.

Sheehy dictated throughout but looked vulnerable to Pachmena who tracked and went for a gap on the winner approaching the home straight. The door was soon closed by the leader who set about making the best way home. Serotonin and Pachmena both tried to close on Figaruso in the final furlong but the leader gamely stuck it out.

He beat Serotonin (14/1) by three-quarters of a length with Pachmena a neck out of the places in third.

Assistant trainer Bernie Quinn said: "He is a nice horse and everything he does at home he does easy. He is a wee bit keen, so it just worked out that he got to the front like that. He can go anywhere, in front or behind, it doesn't matter to him.

"We train in Banbridge (Co Down) and it took around three and a-half hours to get here.

"I've no plan for him now, we'll have to see. He could go back over hurdles."

Figaruso was claimed by Gavin Cromwell, while The Spoonful Of Irish Syndicate and Eoin Carroll claimed Pachmena, to be trained by Matthew Smith.
