Conquering Cromwell sets new seasonal best Jockey Conor Stone-Walsh followed up yesterday’s Leopardstown Chase win when providing trainer Gavin Cromwell with a notable success today, as the pair landed Punchestown’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Handicap Chase with Theonewedreamof (9/4f). Five-pounds claimer Stone-Walsh landed yesterday’s famous Leopardstown Chase on Backtonormal and, reverting to more mundane fare, today moved Theonewedreamof past leader Sainte Donna approaching the final fence, to score by 1.5 lengths. On-fire Cromwell has built massively on his eight-winner tally for the 2017/18 season and following a weekend treble at the Dublin Racing Festival, revealed “that’s winner number 73, so it’s my best ever season: we had 72 last year.” The trainer had also landed today’s opener with Vanillier and he added “Theonewedreamof disappointed the last day, and she can be a bit in-and-out but that’s her. When she’s on a going day she’s not too bad. “Conor was good on her and she got a good tow into the race. A small field probably helps as well as when she gets crowded, she can be inclined to back out a bit. She had loads of room there today and a good gallop to aim at.” Quotes from Alan Magee
