'Big season ahead' for in-form Dark Ace

Ado McGuinness is considering options for ever-improving sprinter Dark Ace after he plundered a good pot on Lingfield's Good Friday card.

That success followed on from breaking the track record over an extended six-furlongs in Wolverhampton, and a return to seven furlongs is under consideration.

McGuinness said: "We have him entered in a Heritage Handicap at Newmarket (six furlongs, May 2nd). I think he will handle fast ground, but I don't want to go and run him on very fast ground at the start of the season.

"We have a big season ahead of us and we are looking forward to him. He broke the track record in Wolverhampton and we are delighted.

"He is back in work and he is in great form. He's a very decent horse and he's a sprinter and, as you know, they get better with age.

"If he doesn't go to Newmarket, he will go for home pots. We might step him up to seven (furlongs), I'm not pushed on doing it as he is so good at six (furlongs).

"The sprinting in Ireland before Derby weekend is very poor, there aren't real good pots. The way I look at it, I'd rather win a good pot and get a penalty than win a 20 grand pot and get a penalty, because you get the same penalty for each.

"It is great to have him and looking forward to him."
