29 Horses Chase Million Euro Prize at Curragh Tomorrow

A near maximum field of 29 will line up for the inaugural running of the Shelbourne Hotel Goffs Million Race at the Curragh tomorrow, the feature event on a glittering card for the Ryder Cup Race Day which commences at 1.30pm. There is a very strong English challenge with no fewer than 13 raiders engaged with Mark Johnston saddling four contenders, the pick of which is likely to be recent Group 3 Sandown winner, Drumfire.

Richard Hannon is always a man to fear in these type of races and he has three representatives engaged while other English raiders worthy of respect are Tim Pitt's recent Epsom winner, Spirit Of The Mist, and Michael Bell's Regime.

The home team sees Kevin Prendergast's recent Moyglare Stakes heroine, Miss Beatrix, bid for a big race double and Declan McDonogh's mount is well drawn in stall 29. Four Sins, is one of five fillies engaged. Dermot Weld is double handed with both Blue Coral and Fly Free coming here after winning their maiden events in good style while Jim Bolger's Finsceal Beo is another to be considered in what promises to be a really exciting and competitive race.

The Shelbourne Hotel Goffs Fillies Five Hundred Race is the chief supporting event and this fillies only contest has attracted another large field with 27 engaged. A strong English raiding party of nine is headed by recent Lowther Stake's winner, Silk Blossom, who looks sure to start as the favourite while Mick Channon's So Sweet, successful in her last two races, will have Frankie Dettori in the saddle to help her cause. Other English runners worthy of mention are Sir Michael Stoute's Cliche and Philip Blockley's Wait Watcher while Clive Cox's Navajo Squaw will be ridden by Michael Kinane.

Aidan O'Brien's Theann and Dermot Weld's Drifting Snow are two useful home contenders with fine prospects along with Braydeen and Isola Star in what should another thrilling contest.
