50/1 winner for Darragh O'Keeffe at Fairyhouse Hickeys Hill was a 50/1 winner for the season's leading jump jockey Darragh O'Keeffe in the FLC Frank Lynch & Co. Supporting Louth GAA Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse. There were loads in with a chance jumping two out in this two-miler and the winner was just behind the leaders at that point. Having moved into fourth at the last, he stayed on well to lead in the closing stages and post a three-parts of a length win over market leader Cowper Hall. "It was his first go in a handicap, he has been a touch disappointing in maiden hurdles,” said trainer Andrew McNamara of John Griffin's six-year-old. “He hasn’t been seeing out his races and he’s not quick so we stepped him up last time and he really didn’t get home. “The drop back in trip today was a help and he’s had his wind done along the way as well. “The lads had a few quid on him so they are happy. “Darragh was absolutely brilliant on him. He’s not a simple horse to ride, he’s keen and he’s not a strong finisher and he hangs a bit as well. “He made every decision right on him the whole way around. He was travelling well turning in and he could have switched wide and got a clear run but he took the chance to switch in and have another horse keep him straight up the straight. That’s why he’s top of the table. “He has the scope to jump a fence, he won a point-to-point. “From not doing that well in maidens he’s ended up well handicapped, so I’d be hoping he wouldn’t get a huge amount for today and there might be another one in him. “I’d say he needs a bit of nice ground so that might be it for him but at least he’s going out on a good note.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
