65 for BGC Sussex Stakes At Glorious Goodwood The prestigious Group One contest, for the best milers in Europe, takes place on day two of Glorious Goodwood, Wednesday, July 30 - Sir Peter O?Sullevan Day. There are 24 entries from Ireland, four from France and one from South Africa. The French entries are headed by Falco, trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias and impressive in this season?s Group One Poule d?Essai des Poulains (the French 2,000 Guineas) at Longchamp on May 18 when he proved three lengths too good for Godolphin?s Rio De La Plata. The Chantilly-based handler said today: "We?ve entered Falco in the BGC Sussex Stakes. He?s going to Royal Ascot for the St James?s Palace Stakes and we could go to Goodwood depending on how he runs there. Aidan O?Brien, who went close to landing a third BGC Sussex Stakes last year with Excellent Art, has entered 20 in 2008, the highest number of any trainer. The pick of the Irish handler?s contenders is the very talented English and Irish 2,000 Guineas victor Henrythenavigator. There is also last season?s French 2,000 Guineas hero Astronomer Royal, Duke Of Marmalade, who has won twice at Group One level already in 2008, Listen, successful in the Group One Fillies? Mile at Ascot in 2007, and US Ranger. O?Brien?s two previous BGC Sussex Stakes victories came courtesy of Giant?s Causeway in 2000 and Rock Of Gibraltar in 2002. Dermot Weld could run the Irish 1,000 Guineas second and third Mad About You and Carribean Sunset, while Jim Bolger has entered last season?s English and Irish 1,000 Guineas victress Finsceal Beo and Kevin Prendergast may be represented by Haatef, successful in the Group Two Diadem Stakes at Ascot last season. The three other French-trained entries are the star filly Darjina, a three-time Group One winner in 2007 for trainer Alain de Royer Dupre and the promising second to stable companion Sageburg in the Group One Prix d?Ispahan on her seasonal reappearance on May 18 as well as Yorktown, who finished fourth behind Falco at Longchamp, from Jean Claude Rouget?s powerful stable Mike de Kock supplies the South African challenger in Archipenko, who has proved a real globetrotting star this year by winning the Group Two Al Fahidi Fort at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai and the Group One Audemars Piguet QE II Cup at Sha Tin, Hong Kong, on April 27.
