Al Eile misses trip to Newcastle Al Eile has met with a setback which has ruled him out of the John Smiths Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday. The John Queally-trained gelding scoped badly at the weekend after failing to sparkle in a workout, and as a result was not among the five-day confirmations for the valuable two miles handicap at the Gosforth Park track. "He worked a little bit below par at the weekend and a subsequent scope revealed all was not right with him," said the County Waterford trainer. The dual purpose eight-year-old, fourth in the Plate 12 months ago, was last seen winning the Aintree Hurdle for a third time on Grand National day in April. "It´s disappointing, but it could be worse, it could have been before Aintree. We´ll take it easy for a few weeks and look at an autumn campaign. We will start him off on the Flat, possibly the Ebor, one of those kind of races later on," added Queally.
