All Systems Go For Taaffe´s King

Tom Taaffe is remaining upbeat about Kicking King?s chances in next month´s Gold Cup despite a disappointing display in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park last weekend.

Speaking at Clonmel on Thursday the Co Kildare based trainer said, "On the face of it the horse hasn?t built on his first run back and for some reason the second run back after a long time off can often be a flat run and that is what he did, he just ran flat on the day."

Taaffe also revealed a slight problem was found with his 2005 Gold Cup hero, "We found a little problem behind in his back, he had a trapped nerve since the race which we only really discovered yesterday. He was moving fine this morning though and if he shows he is well between here and the Gold Cup it is all systems go."

"About eight days before he travels we will give him a smart piece of work away from home and if he comes out of that well I have no doubt he will be fine. I am not going to be put off by one day and I am looking forward to the big day now," concluded the trainer.

Another man who is clearly looking forward to the day is regular jockey Barry Geraghty who said, "He ran well the first day and was disappointing the second day, he is a class horse and has shown that in the past and if he can get back to some of his old ability he would have to have a chance. We go in hope and you never know."
