Ameerat snatches Guineas win

Ameerat (11/1) got the better of a fantastic battle with Muwakleh to land the Sagitta 1000 Guineas at Newmarket today.

The Michael Jarvis-trained daughter of 1996 2000 Guineas winner Mark of Esteem came with a sizzling run under Philip Robinson to catch Frankie Dettori`s mount (13-2) in the final 100 yards and win by a neck.

Tonoca (10-1) finished a further one and three-quarter lengths back in third but favourite Karasta was always struggling and only beat one of her 14 rivals home.

Ameerat was having her first outing of the season, like Golan - also an 11-1 chance - who had obliged 24 hours earlier in the colts` version of the race.

Robinson, whose other success in this race came aboard Pebbles back in 1984, admitted that he had been confident of his mount`s chances in the run-up to the race.

'I was so pleased to get it over with,' he said. 'I was so sure of her.

'She`s done everything we`ve asked of her at home and I`m pleased she`s done it on the racecourse too.'- PA
