Approach out for compensation

Adamant Approach will seek to make amends for a final-flight fall at Cheltenham when he contests the Evening Herald Champion Novice Hurdle on the opening day of the Punchestown Festival tomorrow.

The Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old looked the likely winner of the Gerrard Supreme Novices` Hurdle when he came down at the last allowing fellow Irish raider Like-A-Butterfly to score.

Adamant Approach faces seven rivals in the 84,000 Euro Grade One contest over two miles, including Donal Hassett`s Native Scout, who was sixth in the Cheltenham race.

A field of seven will line-up for the richest race on the card, the 100,000 Euro B.M.W. Chase.

The leading contenders in this Grade One event over two miles are Michael O`Brien`s Knife Edge, the Arthur Moore-trained Fadoudal Du Cochet and Noel Meade`s Strong Run.
