Ascot Target For Youmzain

Youmzain failed to appear among the final declarations for Thursday's Princess of Wales's WBX.COM Stakes with connections favouring a crack at the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot on July 28.

Mick Channon's colt struck at the July meeting 12 months ago when landing the Bahrain Trophy prior to a win in the Great Voltigeur at York, but will be kept fresh for a possible clash with Vodafone Derby winner Authorized in just over two weeks' time.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Jaber Abdullah, said: 'We decided not to run at Newmarket and we will send him to the King George instead.

'He came back from France in good shape, but the race there wasn't run to suit; it was a muddling pace and the track was slightly sharp for him.'

Youmzain is a general 16-1 chance for the prestigious mile-and-a-half contest.
