Authorized Tops Arc Dozen

Authorized will face 11 rivals as he bids to cap a hugely successful season with victory in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.

Winner of the Derby and the International Stakes at York for trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam, Authorized will step back up to a mile-and-a-half in the French feature.

Aidan O'Brien has declared both Soldier Of Fortune and Dylan Thomas with the supplemented Song Of Hiawatha and Yellowstone also in the race.

However, the Ballydoyle handler has withdrawn Acapulco, Archipenko and Red Rock Canyon at the final declaration stage.

The Mick Channon-trained Youmzain and Geoff Wragg's Dragon Dancer complete the British raiding party while Getaway, Mandesha, Zambezi Sun and Sagara comprise the home team.

Saddex, trained by Peter Rau, is the sole German raider.

Authorized is the 5-4 favourite with totesport, who have pushed Soldier Of Fortune out to 100-30 from 5-2.

The firm's spokesman Damian Walker said: 'It's a one-horse book as far as our ante-post betting is concerned.

'Authorized is our only loser and he will probably be the worst result on the day too.'

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Totesport bet: 5-4 Authorized, 100-30 Soldier Of Fortune, 9-2 Zambezi Sun, 6-1 Dylan Thomas, 14-1 Mandesha, 20-1 Saddex, 25-1 Sagara, 40-1 Getaway, Youmzain, 100-1 Dragon Dancer, Yellowstone, 250-1 Song Of Hiawatha.

Conditions at Longchamp are expected to suit hot favourite Authorized down to the ground.

'He's in great form and we're very happy with him. Conditions could not be better ? good to soft ground would be absolutely spot on for him,' said Tony Nerses, racing manager to owners Saleh Al Homeizi and Imad Al Sagar, who have leased the colt back from Sheikh Mohammed.

'We've got the horse and all we need is a lot of luck.'

Sagara has secured one victory in a seven-race career but stayed on well to take second behind Soldier Of Fortune in the Prix Niel last month.

Alan Cooper, racing manager for his owners the Niarchos family, said: 'He's in very good form. He's been third in the Grand Prix de Paris and second to Soldier Of Fortune in the Niel so Jonathan Pease thinks it is well worth taking our chance.

'He's not really ground-dependent ? his only bad run was at Deauville when it was just very sticky.'
