BLEU MISSES AINTREE DATE

Edredon Bleu will miss this afternoon`s Martell Melling Chase at Aintree after heavy rain yesterday turned the going to soft.

Despite a dry night and with the ground on the Mildmay course changing to soft, good to soft in places Miss Knight has decided not to risk her stable star.

'It was very wet at Aintree yesterday and the soft ground wouldn`t suit him at all so I`ve withdrawn him,' Miss Knight explained this morning.

Edredon Bleu won last season`s Queen Mother Champion Chase and following the cancellation on Sunday of this year`s Cheltenham Festival the nine-year-old will be aimed at the replacement race at Sandown at the end of the month.

Miss Knight added: 'We`ll definitely wait for Sandown with him now.'

The Wantage trainer had been pleased with Lord Noelie`s fine 10-length second to First Gold in Thursday`s Martell Cup.

'I was delighted with him,' she said. 'He`s in very good shape this morning.

'He will have a nice summer break and then we`ll aim him for the Cheltenham Gold Cup again - let`s hope there is one next year.'
