BUTLER'S ACE RETURNS

Compton Ace is set to make his return to racecourse action at Newbury tonight.

The Gerard Butler-trained colt, winner of the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last season, has not been seen out since that success having broken a bone in his near-fore knee.

The son of Pharly will run in the Newbury Town Millennium Plate Conditions Stakes over 10 furlongs before a possible trip to Royal Ascot, where he has the option of the Gold Cup or Hardwicke Stakes.

Butler said: 'We're very much looking forward to running him. The trip might be a bit short for him but hopefully he will be OK and then its onward to Royal Ascot.'
