Bailey Making The Most Of It

Kim Bailey is not too despondent about missing the cut for the Grand National with Longshanks, who will instead line up for the John Smith´s And Spar Topham Chase at Aintree tomorrow.

Despite being the third reserve for Saturday´s showpiece, the eight-year-old looks unlikely to get a run and is one of 30 declared for tomorrow´s fiercely competitive handicap.

''We can´t be totally disappointed at missing the cut for the National.

After all, we are still here at Liverpool and running in a big race,' Bailey said today.

Longshanks jumped to Grand National prominence when scooting up at Kempton in January, and he also ran a blinder in the Topham 12 months ago when runner-up to Cassia Heights.

'He worked very well at Newbury on Sunday and he´s scoped clean since,' added Bailey.

'He´s only eight - his time in the National will come.'
