Benbaun Set To Swerve Abbaye

Benbaun is likely to go straight to Hong Kong for a third crack at a Group One after unsuitable ground upset running plans in Europe.

Trainer Mark Wallace withdrew his stable star from Sunday's Diadem Stakes at Ascot because of the rain-softened going and reports the six-year-old as doubtful for the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp this weekend for the same reason.

'He missed Ascot because of the ground and he's very unlikely to run in France as well,' said the Newmarket-based handler.

'We'll probably wait for Hong Kong's International meeting in December.'

Benbaun has contested the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin for the last two years, finishing sixth in 2005 and third in 2006.

The son of Stravinsky has yet to win at the highest level, but five of his six victories at the Curragh have been in Group Three races and the other in a Listed race.
