Betfair Punter Hits The Jackpot

One well-informed punter scooped a record Tote Jackpot dividend of £510,955.60 by naming the first six winners at Aintree on Friday.

The bet, which cost just £32, was placed online through betting exchange Betfair, which has offered its customers the facility to place Tote bets since February 28.

The lucky backer was David Smith, 49, from Beckenham. He had two horses going into the final leg, Boychuk and Oedipe, and won the bet to the full £1 unit as the Nicky Henderson-trained latter defied a price tag of 20-1.

After Master Minded´s defeat in the third leg, the John Smith´s Melling Chase, there was just £132 left in the pool.

Smith said: "This is actually the first time i have used the Tote facility on Betfair!"

Damian Walker, spokesman for Totesport, said: "This was an unbelievable piece of betting.

"You might have thought the punter would have played safe in the final leg and gone for one of the favourites, but they carried on the strategy that had got them through to the final leg and it paid off.

"We are delighted for the punter, who landed a record dividend fittingly in the totepool Handicap Chase."

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin added: "Since we launched the Tote facility on our site in February, we have been delighted with the take-up from our customers."
