Big two dominate Goodwood feature

Racing`s big stables of Aidan O`Brien and Saeed bin Suroor are responsible for almost two thirds of the entries for the Stg£265,000 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Of the 69 horses entered for the Group One event over a mile on July 31st, 23 hail from O`Brien`s Ballydoyle yard while 19 are from the Godolphin camp.

Noverre, winner of the race 12 months ago for trainer bin Suroor and owners Godolphin, could bid for a repeat.

A strong entry from Sheikh Mohammed`s operation includes Best Of The Bests, Dubai Destination, Sagitta 1000 Guineas winner and Vodafone Oaks fancy Kazzia as well as their two Vodafone Derby probables Moon Ballad and Naheef.

Three-year-olds dominated the race last summer when they filled the first four places and the younger generation are certain to be strong once again.

O`Brien`s team includes Rock Of Gibraltar, winner of the English and Irish 2000 Guineas, French 2000 scorer Landseer, and Hawk Wing, hot favourite for Saturday`s Vodafone Derby.

Other three-year-olds with Classic victories to their credit are William Haggas`s Dupont (Italian and German 2000 Guineas), Gossamer (Irish 1000 Guineas) and Zenda (French 1000 Guineas).

There are three entries from the Japanese stable of Kazuo Fujisawa - Diamond Biko, Magnaten and Zenno El Cid.

The four French possibles include the Carlos Laffon-Parias trained Keltos, who defeated Noverre to win the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury last month.
