Bravely lives up to his name

Many will remember his dam, Raghida, a smart sprinting juvenile for Niall Quinn, but her son by Rock Of Gibraltar, Bravely didn´t even run as a two-year-old and it took him until attempt number nine at Fairyhouse this evening to shed his maiden tag.

Under Kevin Manning, the four-year-old showed good reserves of stamina to overhaul Zars Gold, who had looked likely to score at one stage, by one and a half lengths. The 6/1 shot cost his trainer, Jim Bolger, 200,000 Euro as a yearling and he is a half-brother to Marionnaud. This is the family of Soldier Of Fortune.

Bravely´s full-brother, Rock Moss, was well-fancied in the conditions race half-an-hour later but he had to settle for third behind Croi Mo Ri and Mojito Royale.
