British racing to go ahead

British racing will pay its respects to those who died in the terrorist strike in America on Friday - but racing will continue as planned.

A day of mourning on Friday has been declared by the European Union, with a three-minute silence to be held at 11am.

And Alan Delmonte, communications manager at the British Horseracing Board, said today: 'Racecourses today held a minute`s silence as a mark of respect for those who died in yesterday`s atrocity in the United States.

'A three-minute silence is being held across Europe on Friday morning. BHB will co-ordinate a further racing industry-wide period of silence that day as a mark of respect.

'There is no intention to abandon racing in the face of this horrendous terrorist activity.'
