CARTMEL FALLS IN EXCLUSION ZONE Cartmel has become the latest British racecourse to fall within a foot-and-mouth disease exclusion zone. A confirmed case in Grange-over-Sands has proved the track`s downfall. Cartmel only has five days` racing this year and is set to stage action on May 26th, 28th and 30th. However, the executive at Hereford has confirmed that it will stage its meeting a week on Saturday. A statement from the course`s owners Northern Racing Limited said: 'Having taken advice from the British Horseracing Board, the executive are confident that all precautionary measures against foot and mouth disease are in place.' Meanwhile, bookmakers Bet Direct have pledged to donate five pence to the Farmers In Crisis Fund for every phone call received placing a bet on horse racing during April.
