CHESTER ANNOUNCE NEW FESTIVAL MEETING

Chester today unveiled plans to stage an August Festival to compliment its traditional three-day May meeting.

The track also aims to build a new grandstand and hotel complex and refurbish the stable block.

This year it has attracted a modern-day record of over 200,000 racegoers ahead of Wednesday`s last fixture of 2000.

And chief executive Richard Thomas said: 'We have big plans for the first few years of the 21st Century.

'The traditional highlight is our May three-day meeting but in fact we get our biggest crowds during the summer.

'I`m absolutely convinced that we can create a hugely popular festival meeting in August. Redeveloping Chester is our long-term aim.'
