Champion Run On The Cards Andre Fabre is leaning towards running Hurricane Run in the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes in a bid to make up for what many considered an unlucky effort in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp. The previous year's Arc scorer, who is a 5-1 chance with Paddy Power for the weekend showpiece at Newmarket, could only finish fourth to stablemate Rail Link in France, where he did not enjoy a clear run towards the inside approaching the final furlong, before staying on quite strongly at the end.The ground will be the 19-time French champion trainer's final determination as Hurricane Run, who won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot in July, returns to 10 furlongs for the first time in five outings.Fabre said: 'He will probably run in the Champion Stakes, although I am waiting for the weather to be able to consider what sort of ground it is.'Over this shorter distance, he would prefer soft ground.'Asked if he thought Hurricane Run was unlucky in the Arc, the handler opined: 'He was unlucky re his ability and the way that he ran ? he couldn't move early enough as he would have preferred.'It was unlucky or there was a lack of acceleration at a crucial moment like this horse can do. From his point of view, he couldn't extend himself.'Kieren Fallon rode the Montjeu colt in Paris, but with the Irishman still currently banned from riding in Britain, Christophe Soumillon will renew his successful partnership with the horse he guided to a half-length victory over Electrocutionist in the King George.Hurricane Run's participation looks even more likely as officials at Newmarket report the going to have eased marginally, with plenty of rain expected over the next couple of days.Meanwhile, Fabre provided an upbeat report about Shirocco, this year's Coronation Cup winner and last season's Breeders' Cup Turf hero, who was a disappointing last of eight under Soumillon in the Arc.'He is excellent and in training and the news is good,' he enthused. 'We will decide whether to go to Louisville (for the Breeders' Cup Turf or Classic) when there is time.'(C) PA Sport
