Charlton Set For More Handicap Glory

Third Set, winner of last weekend's richly-endowed International Stakes, has crept into Friday's Totesport Mile by virtue of a 5lb penalty.

Roger Charlton's charge scooped the grand sum of #93,480 at Ascot, and will carry 8st 4lb in his bid to lighten the sponsors wallets to the same tune at Goodwood.

Among the more notable opposition are the Ed Dunlop-trained pair Montpellier and King Of Argos, while 2005 winner Unshakable has also been declared.

Luca Cumani runs River Tiber, Drumfire will represent Mark Johnston and Hughie Morrison relies on Supaseus.

Richard Hannon's progressive Ordnance Row will bid for a hat-trick after recent successes at Salisbury and Sandown, while Walter Swinburn's Pinpoint tops the weights on 9st 11lb.

Totesport were quick to cut Third Set into 3-1 favouritism (from 11-2) once his presence in the line-up was assured.

Spokesman Damian Walker explained: 'Everything has come right for this horse with the high draw and fast ground, plus the stable could not be in better form.

'Third Set has the look of a handicap snip with his 5lb penalty, but punters will not need reminding that plenty of handicap good things over the years have failed to deliver the goods.

'Montpellier looked desperately unlucky in the last race on the opening day and he gets a chance to gain some quick compensation having crept in at the very bottom of the weights.'

Totesport Mile, sponsors bet:

3-1 Third Set, 10-1 King Of Argos, Montpellier, Ordnance Row, Pinpoint, 11-1 Supaseus, 12-1 River Tiber, 14-1 Mine, 18-1 Drumfire, 20-1 Humungous, Vortex, 25-1 Babodana, My Paris, Unshakable, 28-1 Bar.
