Tuesday’s historically been a good day for punters at the Cheltenham Festival and here we’ve put together an each-way four fold for day one.

The picks include an impressive winner from last time out and an eye-catcher in one of the handicaps.

Each-way Four Fold

Selection One: Irancy

Selection Two: The Changing Man

Selection Three: Puturhandstogether

Selection Four: Captain Cody

1.20 Cheltenham - 2m. 87yds. (Old) Michael O'Sullivan Supreme Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1) (Class 1) (4yo+) - Irancy

Kopek Des Bordes will be bidding to get favourite backers off to a flyer on Tuesday afternoon, but one of his stablemates looks a little overpriced given his profile.

That’s the JP McManus-owned Irancy who kept some smart company last season when finishing behind Firefox and Ballyburn in maiden hurdle company.

He’s only been seen once since when bolting up in a Punchestown maiden hurdle on good ground earlier this season and, given that he’s proven in these conditions, he looks capable of making the frame at decent odds.

2.40 Cheltenham - 3m1f Ultima Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (Class 1) (5yo+) - The Changing Man

This is a typically competitive renewal, but it’s one that has exclusively gone to the Brits in recent seasons and it may do so again this year.

The best bet looks like The Changing Man who fell on his return to action this season but who has been absolutely flying subsequently.

He deservedly got his head back in front in a Grade 2 at Ascot last time out and, with conditions likely to be on the quicker side of good-to-soft, the ground will suit him better than most of these staying chasers.

4.40 Cheltenham - 2m. 87yds. (Old) Hallgarten And Novum Wines Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (Registered As Fred Winter) (Premier Hcap) (Class 1) (4yo) - Puturhandstogether

This is one of the toughest races of the week to find the winner of, but JP McManus has an excellent recent record in the contest and it’s really that Mark Walsh rides Puturhandstogether out of the owner’s three runners.

He won in much better style than the winning margin suggests in maiden hurdle company at Cork in December and it looked like he didn’t particularly relish very testing ground when narrowly denied at Fairyhouse subsequently.

With a dry forecast and this being the penultimate race on the card, the ground should be at the very worst good to soft and that will suit the selection in this contest, with this Flat winner being about more speed than stamina, so the sharper Old Course will also help him.

An opening mark of 130 could prove to be on the lenient side and he can resume progress with his preferred conditions.

5.20 Cheltenham - 3m6f (Old) Princess Royal National Hunt Challenge Cup Novices' Handicap Chase (Class 2) (5yo+ 0-145) - Captain Cody

Captain Cody gives the impression that he’s going to relish this extreme stamina test stepping up to this new trip.

He’s improved with every one of his chase starts in three runs over the larger obstacles so far and he stayed on in eye-catching fashion behind a nice prospect in beginners’ company last time out.

He’s another who appears to be on a good mark for his handicap debut and there’s an argument to say the Champion Trainer’s representative should be vying for favouritism.
