Kalir takes out finale in the Curragh The Dermot Weld-trained Kalir (6/1) gave jockey Chris Hayes a quick-fire double in the last two races at the Curragh. The three-year-old son of Night Of Thunder was a recent winner in Killarney and improved today to win off a mark of 85. Hayes was allowed to make most and he kicked at the two-furlong mark and kept the fast-finishing Final Voyage at bay to gain victory by half a length. "We had that race earmarked for him, I thought here would suit him," said the winning rider. "It wasn't the plan to make it, but I got gifted it in front and he picked up well. "I think he'll be better when he goes up in trip and he's turning a few bends. He could be a stakes horse." (Quotes from John O'Riordan)
