Coolmore outbid Godolphin for top lot

Coolmore secured this year`s highest priced yearling when John Magnier`s organisation outbid Sheikh Mohammed`s team at the Keeneland Sales on Thursday evening, it was reported in today`s Racing Post.

Demi O`Byrne, bidding for Coolmore, got the final nod over Godolphin at $6.4million - the second-highest in the history of the sale - for a colt by Giant`s Causeway`s sire Storm Cat.

The $6.8million sale record was paid last year by O`Byrne for another son of Storm Cat called Tasmanian Tiger, who is in training with Aidan O`Brien at Ballydoyle.
