Having originally been declared for a maiden at Saturdays abandoned fixture at Fairyhouse, the Stuart Crawford trained Krak landed a much more valuable prize when winning the Bar One Racing Easter Handicap Hurdle at Cork.

Third on all three previous appearances in maiden company, the five-year-old was stepping back up in trip on his first foray into handicap class.

Held up in mid division by J J Slevin, the 9/1 chance moved closer on the inside rail early in the straight. Switched out to go fourth approaching the penultimate flight, the Crawford trained gelding was produced to challenge Addragoole on the run to the last.

A less than fluent leap at that obstacle left the gelding with work to do but Slevin soon had him upsides, before going on to score by two lengths from the closing Zoffanien

J J Slevin said: "It was a nice pot to win and while he had some nice runs in maidens, it's not easy to win first time in a handicap as you need to be street-wise. He has been babyish and immature but my hand was forced today and I had to sit where I was.

"Who knows where he'll end up but hopefully he will keep climbing the ranks."
