Cullahill Comes Good

Cullahill, impressive when winning his point-to-point at Ballyragget back in March 2007, rewarded the patience of his owner, Nick Elliott and trainer, Bob Buckler, when landing the Wye Valley Brewery Maiden Hurdle at Hereford yesterday.

Bought for 65,000 guineas at the Brightwells Sale at Cheltenham in April of last year, the Good Thyne gelding was getting off the mark at his ninth attempt under Rules. A 20/1 shot, the re-application of a tongue tie and improved ground conditions were put forward as reasons for the emphatic thirteen length success.

He didn?t go unbacked, opening at 28s and touching 18s. Daryl Jacob, the Enniscorthy native, did the steering. The well-bred six-year-old (from the family of Oxenham, Dun Belle, Miss Nero, Mr Maguire and Southern Star) took his ?point? for Kilkenny handler Michael Butler when shared with former inter-county hurling ace forward, Liam McCarthy.Carthy.
