Damalis sprints to Chester glory

Eric Alston saddled his second winner of the meeting when course specialist Damalis took the opening Hill Dickinson Rated Stakes (Showcase

Handicap) at Chester today.

Tuscan Dream broke very smartly from the stalls and gallantly attempted to make all, but Willie Supple produced Damalis with a perfectly-timed

run to get her head in front in the last 150 yards and go on to score by one and a quarter lengths.

It is her fourth course win and Alston said: 'She loves it around here, she travels so well and for some reason she likes going round bends.

'She got a bit warm, though she usually does on a hot day, but she did seem spot-on after her run at Bath the other day. We don`t have any

definite plans, but no doubt she will be coming back here.'

The Preston trainer was doubly delighted to see the mare win, adding: 'My old boss Harry Wharton is here today. I was apprenticed to him about

40 years or so ago when he was at Wetherby and I rode a winner for him.'
