Danny Mullins completed a near 33/1 double when his father’s Fox Watch (8/1) took the second split of the Ire Wel Pallets Ltd Handicap Steeplechase.

Successful earlier for his uncle Willie on Recite a Prayer, Mullins produced the Sholokhov gelding to challenge two out where he was bumped when the leader Lessofdnegativity jumped out to his right. Fox Watch was quickly back on an even keel and gained a narrow lead before the last. He was driven out to beat the rallying Lessofdnegativity by three quarters of a length with Walking The Walk who was also hampered two out, a further five lengths back in third.

It was a first victory on his twelfth start for the seven-year-old chestnut.

Winning trainer Tony Mullins remarked: “I thought he’d win in Leopardstown (finished seventh) and he came to win his race but maybe we left him a bit short. I was disappointed coming home.

“Maybe the three miles and one made the difference. We’ll stay going with him over the summer.”
