Dobbin lands Welburn ride

Tony Dobbin, who won the 1997 Martell Grand National on Lord Gyllene, has been booked to partner Gunner Welburn in next month`s renewal of the Aintree spectacular.

Gunner Welburn has already shown that he can cope with the massive fences having won the Martell Fox Hunters` Chase over two and three quarter miles of the National course 12 months ago.

The 10-year-old has continued in good form this term beating Mighty Moss by 11 lengths at Haydock in February before going under by only half a length to Last Option in the Foxhunters` Chase at last week`s Cheltenham Festival.

Dobbin, 29 and enjoying his best season, said: 'I am very pleased to have been asked to ride Gunner Welburn, I have never ridden him but he ran a great race at Cheltenham and he has jumped round Aintree and won so that has to be a big bonus.

'I will be going down to ride him next week and I am looking forward to it - it is always good to have a ride in the National and even better when it is a horse with agood chance, and it would be nice to win it again!'
