Simon Torrens delivered the Philip Rothwell trained Dontgowithjoe from off the pace to cause a 40/1 upset in the Cummins Homevalue Hardware Handicap Hurdle at Ballinrobe.

In a lively betting market that saw support for quite a few of the runners, it was the rag that eventually came out on top under Torrens.

Dropped out towards rear of the nine runners, Dontgowithjoe only had one behind him after jumping the penultimate flight.

Moving through into third after negotiating the last, the son of Free Eagle went second entering the home straight.

Pushed along to head San Aer over a furlong out, the eventual winner kept on well to score eased down by three-lengths from Tomas O Maille

Simon Torrens said: "He has been learning away and it has taken him a few runs to get his act together. He came from the Flat so had been plenty keen and his jumping left a lot to be desired on his first runs over hurdles.

"We didn't go overly quick today so it gave him an ideal opportunity to jump away and he had the gears to pick up and go. He is a nice enough horse and hopefully he'll keep progressing and improving.

"I rode a winner for Philip last month too, although winners are hard to come by these days. There are plenty young lads with claims who are getting going but this is great."
