Double gives Darley title hopes

Kevin Darley cut Kieren Fallon`s lead in the British jockeys championship race into single figures and has not given up hopes of retaining his title after completing a double at Newmarket today.

Darley was successful on Bollin Nellie and Give Notice to take his score for the Turf season to 152, nine adrift of Fallon - and it could have been even better as he rode two seconds, one beaten only a short head.

With the season ending at Doncaster next Saturday Darley has decided to give Wolverhampton`s evening meeting a miss after fulfilling his commitments at Newmarket tomorrow, and when asked if he could catch Fallon he said: 'Never say never - I am enjoying it but I am not putting any pressure on myself.

'I seem to be riding winners left right and centre but I am not going to Wolverhampton, not after a busy day here, I have seven rides and hopefully a winner or two.'

Darley`s determinaton showed as he got Tim Easterby`s Bollin Nellie home in the European Breeders Fund FilliesStakes.

Give Notice took the NGK Spark Plugs Stubbs Rated Stakes in game style to also complete a double for John Dunlop who had earlier struck with Red Liason on whom Martin Dwyer was having his first ride for the Arundel trainer.

High Pitched continues to improve and having stretched his winning sequence to four in the Levy Board Group Three St Simon Stakes he is expected to develop into a leading contender for the big staying Cup races next season.
