Doyle switch pays off with treble

Brett Doyle`s decision to head for Thirsk instead of Newbury today paid off when he opened his account on the Yorkshire course with a sparkling 64-1 treble on Shoeshine Boy, Just Murphy and Parisian Elegance.

Doyle has a retainer with Shoeshine Boy`s trainer Brian Meehan, and he recalled before dashing off to Wolverhampton`s evening meeting: 'I have not ridden a winner here before, in fact I think this is only the second time I have been here and the last time was when I was a 7lb apprentice.

'Originally I was going to go to Newbury today and the horse I would have ridden there (Amour Sans Fin) has won, but I have ended up with three here so I have had a better day overall.'

The three-timer was highlighted by Parisian Elegance`s success in the European Breeders Fund Carlton Miniott Novice Fillies` Stakes with her performance earning her a trip to Royal Ascot next month.

She struck the front a furlong out and kept on well to hold off Princess Sofie and Louvolite, prompting trainer Robert Cowell, whose father bred the filly, to reason: 'I think in giving 7lb and a beating to Tim Easterby`s filly (Princess Sofie) suggests she is good enough to go for the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

'It is frightening for a small yard to have a filly like this, we have horses rated in the eighties and they can`t go with her _ and Brett said he has not ridden a horse this season which will beat her.'

Shoeshine Boy defied top weight in the Easingwold Handicap to give Meehan his first success on the course for at least five years and the gelding`s part-owner David Simpson, who has four other horses in the yard, said: 'Brett gave him a terrific ride, he was well blocked in but he switched him and got him out. Thank goodness he came here rather than Newbury'!

Just Murphy burst through a gap to snatch the victory out of the fire in the last few strides of the Studford Inns Handicap to give trainer Alan Swinbank his sixth success on the Flat andhe said: 'He ran a good race last year at York so we thought we would put him away.

'He is will be a different horse again next season and could be decent one day.'
