Dupont lands Italian 2000 Dupont, representing the Willie Haggas-Darryll Holland combination, proved a game winner of the Italian 2000 Guineas (Premio Parioli) in Rome today.The British raider (7.04-1) became involved in a fierce duel with local hope Fisich and there was only a nose in it at the line.Polycar, having showed plenty of early pace, was a length further away in third. Mister Cavern, another domestic hope, was fourth.Salselon proved a disappointing favourite. The Premio Pisa winner never got into the argument in sixth.John Dunlop`s Flat Spin was eighth.Holland said: 'It was close but I thought I had just got there and I`m thrilled to have won the Italian 2,000 Guineas.'We knew the horse had improved since Lingfield, but it`s always hard to win when you are drawn 17 of 18 here and that was the big worry.'Fortunately, everything went right and Dupont travelled brilliantly for me - the horse takes a bit of knowing - and then really dug deep when I asked him.'It`s a greattraining performance by William Haggas and I can`t thank him enough for keeping me on the horse.'
