Dwyer Handed Regime Ride

Martin Dwyer has landed the ride on Regime in the Vodafone Derby at Epsom on June 2.

Dwyer, who partnered Sir Percy to victory in the blue riband event 12 months ago, will now be on board the Michael Bell-trained colt as Jamie Spencer is sidelined due to a suspension.

Dwyer also tasted Classic success on board Casual Look in the 2003 renewal of the Oaks.

'Martin Dwyer will ride Regime in the Derby,' said Harry Herbert, racing manager of the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing syndicate, who own the three-year-old.

'He knows his way around Epsom very well and he has ridden an Oaks winner and a Derby winner so he rides the track very well.

'Regime will go to Epsom on Thursday with Martin on board to have a spin around Tattenham Corner.

'We think he is going in to the race underrated as we have always thought the world of him. He ran a big race in the Goffs Million and might have won if he was on the other side.

'He was definitely over the top and hated the heavy ground at Newbury in the Racing Post Trophy and then he came back and won the Classic Trial really well.

'He is a horse that is uncomplicated really and we are very hopeful. It is such a thrill to have a runner, never mind a horse that we think might be good enough to run a very big race.

'With the Derby you need some luck but you always need a horse with speed, and Regime has that.

'Hopefully Martin can get him in a good position and use his turn of foot, because that is one of his big weapons.

'The favourite will be a very tough nut to crack but hopefully we will be in a position to test him.'

Regime can still be backed at 20-1 with Betfred for the Derby.
