Fallon Factor Hits Bookies

Those who backed Dylan Thomas and Kieren Fallon for Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe glory were able to breathe a huge sigh of relief after the French stewards allowed him to keep the race.

A mammoth inquest ensued into the interference caused by Fallon's mount in the closing stages of the race, which saw him keep the fast-finishing Youmzain at bay by a head.

But following an anxious wait of around 30 minutes, the placings remain unchanged.

William Hill's director of racing David Hood said: 'It was a massive result for the punters.

'If the stewards had gone the other way then punters would have left behind around #5million in winnings.'

He continued: 'Like the majority of UK and Irish bookmakers we only pay double result on UK and Irish racing.

'International racing has too many different rules and regulations and interpretations to be able to apply the same rules as we do for domestic racing.

'Nevertheless the result is a cracking one for the punters and I'm sure there will be thousands of Fallon fans raising a glass to the Irishman.'
