Fashion Foils Dettori

Frankie Dettori´s run of Classic success came to a halt in Milan when he had to settle for second in the Oaks d´Italia.

The ever-popular rider was seeking a fourth big-race win in the space of two weeks following his heroics on Authorized, Lawman and West Wind in England and France.

His mount Moi Non Plus went down by a length and three-quarters to the Michael Jarvis-trained Fashion Statement, ridden by Neil Callan in the colours of Peter Savill.

The delighted owner said: 'I´m absolutely delighted she won. We always thought she was a good filly and she is probably going to go for the Yorkshire Oaks.'

However, Dettori had earlier tasted Group One success when he booted home Sudan in the Gran Premio di Milano.

The Elie Lellouche-trained four-year-old is far from prolific, but had faced some stiff tasks including coming up against Arc winner Rail Link on three occasions.

Dettori, who was elated as his mother Mara made a rare visit to see him ride, admitted: 'I didn´t think we would win, so I am delighted that we just held on to it. He won it well.'

Clive Brittain´s Hattan, fourth in the race 12 months ago, put up another brave effort and chased Dettori home under Seb Sanders.
