Fire may miss Leger for Arc bid

Aidan O'Brien has warned Frozen Fire, as low 7-2 for the Ladbrokes St Leger, is far from certain to run in the final Classic.

The Irish Derby winner is back in work after a short break but connections seem to prefer a tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Speaking at the launch of the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes, O'Brien said: "We are thinking of giving him an Arc prep or a racecourse gallop before possibly going for the Arc. He's far from certain to go for the St Leger."

The son of Montjeu has had a mixed season to date, finishing second to Tartan Bearer in the Dante at York on his seasonal reappearance.

However he could then finish only 11th behind New Approach in the Vodafone Derby, connections claiming the track and uneven pace were against him.

They seemed to be valid excuses when he returned to winning ways at the Curragh, comprehensively reversing both York and Epsom form with Tartan Bearer.
