GAA betting tips: Our 10/1 accumulator for the weekend

It's the first weekend of the knockout phase in the All-Ireland SFC this weekend as eight teams compete to secure places in the quarter-finals in the race for Sam Maguire.

The hurling championship meanwhile is into the meat of the argument too, with a Saturday evening double header set to complete the four semi-finalists in pursuit of the Liam McCarthy Cup.

We have a trio of selections from across this weekend's GAA action as the hurling and football seasons pass the point of no return.

  • Mourne men no pushovers

The All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-finals take place across Saturday and Sunday and, for most onlookers, the quartet of ties look to be of the cut and dried nature.

Kerry, Dublin, Donegal and Galway will all start as hefty favourites against Cavan, Cork, Louth and Down respectively.

If there is to be a sniff of a shock in the air then it looks most likely to arrive at Pairc Esler in Newry on Sunday afternoon when Conor Laverty's Down host Padraic Joyce and his Galway side, last year's beaten All-Ireland finalists.

The Tribesmen have seemingly regressed this term, with Joyce unable to settle on his best team for reasons of both form and injury.

They were on the brink of elimination last week, but recovered to beat an Armagh side that perhaps lacked some focus, given that they were already guaranteed a straight passage to the last-eight.

Galway also struggled in Derry last month and now face another Ulster side that will serve it up to them.

Down engaged in a cracking tussle with Monaghan last weekend, scoring 1-26 and, while they might come up shy in the end, this should be close on the scoreboard with home advantage for the Mourne men a key factor.

    Treaty to send Dubs packing

Limerick are still smarting from their Munster final loss to bitter rivals Cork on penalties as they head for Croke Park to face Dublin on Saturday afternoon.

It's a double-header, with the footballers of Cork and Dublin due out at the Jones' Road venue afterwards.

Limerick's shooting efficiency was not at the level to which they are accustomed in the provincial decider and it cost them in the end.

No side in recent times can match their comfort level in Croke Park, however, and they should ease to victory against this Dublin side.

Niall O'Ceallachain can be pleased with aspects of his first season as Dublin bainisteoir, but the provincial series revealed some worries, in particular the 5-19 they conceded to Kilkenny in Nowlan Park.

They leaked 11 goals in the Leinster championship in their first four games, with only whipping boys Antrim failing to find the net, before losing by five points at home to Galway in what was a virtual semi-final at Parnell Park.

Limerick will have a hunger following their own provincial disappointment and they can send the Dubs out of the Championship in comprehensive style.

    Tipp's progress to be stunted

It has been a decent season for Tipperary, but Liam Cahill's side look too short for their clash with Galway at the Gaelic Grounds.

Before last month, Tipp hadn't won successive Championship matches since 2019. The Premier county are improving but perhaps not at the rate to be All-Ireland contenders.

Galway lost the Leinster final to Kilkenny by eight points in Croke Park but they rallied strongly midway through the second half in a contest that was getting away from them.

After a five-week break Tipperary are back in action, but Micheál Donoghue's side are more than capable of upsetting them in Limerick.
