Galway Tuesday - Early Market Round Up

Daily guide to the early trade in the markets at Galway with Eoin Ryan of Betfair.

A 2M maiden hurdle gets day two off to a start and Desert Abbey has been the best-backed horse here, in the morning exchanges. The early birds on Betfair availed of some 5-2 and 9-4 but those prices are long gone now. There is still a bit of 7-4 in a place but the general price now is just 6-4 and that is where Andrew Leigh´s mount trades on the exchange at present. Corrick Bridge (Tony Martin/Ruby Walsh) is interesting for obvious reasons but there hasn´t been any major support for him as yet and the best advice is to wait and see what unfolds on-course. She´s Supersonic was a drifter pre-off yesterday for example, freely trading at 10-1 on Betfair when still 6-1 in the ring. Positive: Desert Abbey. Negative: Corrick Bridge

Most punters and pundits alike will be surprised to hear that at present it looks like Adamant Approach may not go off as favourite in this 2M6F Chase. Put in at 5-4 in the Racing Post tissue, he is trading at a big 2-1 now on Betfair as money arrives for Ballycullen Boy. Chasing a four timer here, Ballycullen Boy has just gone through the 2-1 mark on the exchange and trades at around 15-8. He has been cut by all the high street firms too, with Skybet´s 15-8 the best offer around. Charles Byrnes and Davy Russell team up here with Mounthenry and although there hasn´t been much morning support for him, he should be watched carefully. Positive: Ballycullen Boy. Negative: Adamant Approach

A wide open 2M flat handicap where so many have realistic chances. Quartino has been the most popular in morning trade and is a top price 6-1 at present (Boyles, Paddy Power) You won´t do any better than that on Betfair, where he´s also a tight 6-1 shot and shortening up all the time. Some of the high street firms are seeing money for Mohartes too (6´s generally) although there is some 8-1 on the exchange. Not much support for Hearthstead Dream, whose price is creeping out steadily. At a bigger price, Zum See, with MJ Kinane on board is obviously interesting and he´s been the eye catcher in the market of those at bigger prices (14-1 now) Positive: Quartino and Zum See. Negative: Hearthstead Dream.

Bolodenka, a winner here twice last year, has been the lively one in the market here and his price on Betfair has halved from 14-1 into 7´s. It´s a widespread move for the horse and again, MJ Kinane is an eye-catching booking. It´s another wide open affair though, with several horses attracting morning support, and others worthy of a positive mention are Deauville Vision and Quinnmaster. The early negative in the market would have to be Absolute Image for the Weld/Smullen combo. A 5-1 paper favourite, he´s trading at twice those odds now and there doesn´t appear to be a great deal of confidence there. Positive: Bolodenka. Negative: Absolute Image.

The 7F maiden at 7.35PM gives DK Weld an ideal opportunity to atone for Domestic Fund´s defeat yesterday but his Campfire Glow has taken a walk in the market this morning on Betfair and has just been matched at 4-1. Jim Bolger´s Chun Tosaigh was also disappointing yesterday but his Princess Rose Anne has been popular and trades at 4´s from 5´s. David Myerscough has a fair degree of two year old talent in his yard with Bruges setting the bar high, so he´s sure to know where Amarama slots in. His horse is an eye catcher at around 10-1 as there has been a small bit of support and that price could well shorten. Positives: Princess Rose Anne & Amarama. Negative: Campfire Glow.

The 7F handicap at 8.10PM has been a quite trading heat and only Bay Boy (6´s generally) rates as any kind of mover in the market. Day 2 concludes with a 7F Maiden and although it´s another Weld/Smullen favourite in Downhill Skier, there hasn´t been a significant move for him at all. Expect Sweet Peak to be the popular each way shout in the race at around 4-1 whilst Lonesome Maverick will also be popular e/w at the same price. Outside of these three, its 9-1 bar and nothing has been nibbled at bigger prices as yet. There are no major Positives or Negatives to report in the final two races as yet.
