Gold Out Of Re-Routed Cotswold

David Johnson has ruled Celestial Gold out of the rearranged Cotswold Chase at Wincanton on Thursday.

The champion jumps owner is now considering sending last season´s Hennessy Gold Cup and Paddy Power Gold Cup winner to the Cheltenham Festival without a prep run after Saturday´s meeting at Prestbury Park was abandoned.

'There´s absolutely no chance of Celestial Gold going to Wincanton and in my view it´s a mistake to reschedule the race for there,' he said.

'Wincanton is a completely different course from Cheltenham - flat and the other way around - so switching it there makes no sense with the Gold Cup in mind.

'Celestial Gold goes well fresh - he´s won on his seasonal reappearance before - so it remains a possibility to go for the Gold Cup without a run,' Johnson told the Racing Post.
