Gossamer heads for Guineas

Gossamer, second favourite for the Sagitta 1000 Guineas, is set to head straight for the May 5th Classic, her trainer Luca Cumani said today.

The daughter of Sadler`s Wells won all her three starts as a juvenile to earn a quote of 3-1 from William Hill for the Newmarket contest.

Looking forward in her coat she impressed watchers when cantering this morning and Cumani said: 'At the moment the plan is to go straight to Newmarket.

'It`s doable, it`s easier and she just doesn`t need the run.

'If you run two, two and a half weeks before the Guineas you run the risk of picking up a problem.

'In the Guineas you are competing with fillies that haven`t run this season or have run only once. It is a level playing field for everybody.'

Gossamer appeared not to have grown too much over the winter and Cumani went on: 'She`s a very straight forward and uncomplicated lady. In fact I would go so far as to say that I would like to marry her.'

She was very impressive on her final start last season in the Group One Meon Valley Stud Stakes on soft going at Ascot but the Bedford House trainer is not concerned over underfoot conditions for his Guineas hope.

He said: 'Last year she did most of her training on fast ground and if it stayed dry that wouldn`t worry me.'

Mick Channon`s Queen`s Logic is the 9-4 favourite with William Hill for the 1000 Guineas.
