Ground doubt for Infallible

John Gosden´s Pivotal filly was fourth in the 1000 Guineas and is due to renew rivalry with James Fanshawe´s runner-up Spacious, who also represents the owner-breeder operation that is Cheveley Park Stud.

Yet firm ground conditions could scupper the clash according to Cheveley Park´s senior manager John Marsh.

He said: "If it´s fast ground Infallible might not run. She and Spacious are both in the infancy of their game and we see a lot of pleasure in the future with both.

"At present, though, they are set to race against each other in the Coronation Stakes. There is no alternative for them and they are both in good form.

"They´ve both only run three times and they are still learning their trade. They both ran in the Guineas and ran with distinction although the race wasn´t run to suit them."

Nayef filly Spacious was also entered for the 1m4f Ribblesdale originally and Marsh concedes that a step up in trip could be in order after Ascot.

"Spacious should get a little further in due course, we´ll see. She is bred to go further and that could be an option."
