Haggas Hoping For Rain

William Haggas is praying for rain so that he can get three-year-old sprinter Conquest on the track.

However, the Newmarket trainer believes that life can be tough for the Classic crop against older horses.

'He´s in great form. We want to run him but we want to get a bit of rain for him first,' he said.

'If it does rain and there´s a bit of cut in the ground he´ll go for the Duke of York at York, otherwise he might wait for the Temple. Because he´s got a Group Two penalty for winning the Gimcrack, our obvious target is something at Royal Ascot.

'He´s a nice horse and everyone knows how tough it is for a three-year-old sprinter.

'A horse like Kevin Ryan´s Amadeus Wolf is going to have a very good year. He was a good two-year-old then missed out a bit last year. I hope Conquest doesn´t do the same but it is very tough for them, especially if they´ve got a big penalty.

'He obviously is a bit quirky as he carries his head quite high and wears blinkers but he´s got plenty of talent. We´ll see how he gets on.' Haggas told At The Races.

The Newmarket trainer hopes to work Ribblesdale Stakes winner Mont Etoile after racing on Sunday.

'Mont Etoile may possibly go to Newmarket with Very Wise to work on Sunday after racing,' he went on.

'I´m going to start Mont Etoile off, all being well, at Hamilton in a Listed handicap on May 18. She´s a Group Two winner but only rated 107 and I might put her in the Ormonde.

'We´ll see what happens and think about the Hardwicke.'
