Hedge Lengthens For National Glory

Hedgehunter is now a best-priced 16-1 for the John Smith's Grand National despite pleasing connections on his comeback run over hurdles at Limerick on Sunday.

Ladbrokes decided to push Willie Mullins' charge out from 14-1 after he finished ninth in the UL Bohemians Raceday Hurdle on only his second start this term.

Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams said: 'Despite connections saying they were pleased with his Limerick run, punters seem to disagree and we've barely seen any money for him since the weekend.

'We certainly weren't overly impressed and are quite happy to push him out for now. A Hedgehunter win at this stage would be a decent result for the layers.'

Despite the lack of market confidence, the 11-year-old was reported to be none the worse for his exertions and will shortly resume his preparation for the Aintree feature on Saturday week.

'He trotted up sound on Monday morning, ate up when he got home on Sunday night and he seems fine,' said Mullins.

'We were happy enough with the way he ran, it was the only race for him that week. He'll be back out working again on Tuesday.'
