Henry may run before Cheltenham

Royal & Sun Alliance Chase hope Valley Henry could have an outing at Chepstow or Wincanton next week, it was revealed today.

Paul Nicholls` seven-year-old had been impressive when scoring at Chepstow and Newbury but blotted his copybook with a fall at Kempton on Boxing Day, forcing connections into a rethink about his build-up to the Festival.

Nicholls and owner Paul Barber had originally declared that Valley Henry would not have another run before Cheltenham as they considered he was a better horse when fresh.

However, Barber said: 'Paul now definitely thinks he would like to give Valley Henry another run before Cheltenham as he had a nasty fall at Kempton in the Feltham Chase and came back a little bruised.

'But he`s now very, very well in himself and we are looking for a race where we don`t take too much out of him if we can help it and get him jumping to give his confidence a nice boost.

'He may go to Chepstow for a two-mile chase next Wednesday or Wincanton the following day for a two mile and five furlong contest as he`s so fresh at home at present.'

But Barber added: 'There`s absolutely no panic with him and I`m not worried about him running within a month of Cheltenham in the right race.

'In a perfect world he would not need to run before Cheltenham but the fall at Kempton changed all that somewhat and, as long as Paul can find the right race, he will run.'

Valley Henry is a 12-1 chance with Coral for the Festival contest.
